Shonelle is a Senior Associate at MDS Legal. She graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws in 2007, and then spent two years working as the Associate to Justice Beech in the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
Since her admission in 2009, Shonelle has gained experience across a wide range of areas. She initially practised in criminal law for Legal Aid, and then in a boutique Perth litigation firm for a number of years. Shonelle then worked in Vancouver at a leading Canadian insurance law firm.
Upon her return to Australia in early 2015, Shonelle joined MDS Legal and has settled into a role in civil litigation. That involves acting in a variety of matters in the State courts, especially in professional negligence claims for Law Mutual (WA), the insurance arm of the Law Society of Western Australia.
As well as having a professional association with the Law Society through her role at MDS Legal, Shonelle is an active member of the Society and serves on its Courts Committee.
As part of her litigation practice, Shonelle has a strong interest in mediation, which is an increasingly common method of dispute resolution. That interest has led Shonelle to study and hold accreditation as a mediator for a number of years during her career.
Shonelle also has a keen interest in corporate governance and was a director of Hockey WA from early 2017 to early 2021. In May 2020, Shonelle was also appointed as a member of the Governance Panel of FIH, the International Hockey Federation.
